Who We Are

About Improv At Work

Improv At Work is the corporate learning and team-development division of The Assembly Improv South Africa, based in Johannesburg. We bring the tools of improvisation off-stage and into organisations through practical, highly engaging workshops that strengthen how people communicate, collaborate, and adapt in real time.

What we do

We design and facilitate improv-based experiences for organisations that want better human skills at work—without the awkwardness of traditional “training.” Typical outcomes include:

Effective communication (active listening, clarity, empathy)

Team building (trust, connection, breaking down silos)  Adaptability (thinking on your feet, responding to change)  Creativity and innovation (idea generation, co-creation, risk-tolerant brainstorming)

Leadership and presence (better conversations, influence, confidence under pressure)

We deliver sessions as short energisers, half-day/full-day workshops, or multi-session programmes (in-person or online), depending on your goals.

Paul Rabenowitz is a Johannesburg-based educator and practitioner working at the intersection of financial-planning professionalism and applied improvisation. Since 2007, he has taught and developed learning programmes through Lightbulb Learning, supporting candidates and practitioners across the financial-planning curriculum. He has also edited and written professional financial-planning textbooks published by LexisNexis, translating complex regulation and technical concepts into practical, exam- and practice-ready understanding.

Alongside this, Paul is a long-form improv teacher and applied-improv facilitator, using evidence-informed improvisation methods to strengthen communication, trust, adaptability, and client-facing presence. Building on a Master’s foundation, he is completing PhD research at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) on how applied improvisation can improve the relational skills financial planners need to build better client outcomes. He speaks and trains on human performance under uncertainty—where technical expertise and real-time relational skill meet.
